Pruning

Tree pruning or trimming is one of the most common forms of up keep and maintenance that you can have performed on your trees.

Generally, reasons for pruning fall into one or more of three categories.

Aesthetics β€“ Everyone wants the trees on their property to add to their home and complement the way it fits in with the landscaping. Pruning a tree effectively will help preserve its overall form and keep that tree adding to the value of your home and not detracting from it. By properly thinning the branches of the tree this allows light and air to penetrate the tree and reduces weight on heavy limbs all of which contribute to a healthier and safer tree.

Safety β€“ Storm damage, natural branch die back, obstruction of view or branches growing too close to utility lines. All of these are excellent reasons to have a tree pruned. Taking preventative measures early on is not only cost effective, but can also on occasion save the tree, your house or car, from catastrophic damage. Safety should be a large contributing factor with any tree care.

Health β€“ Sometimes to save a tree, infected limbs may need to be removed before further damage can occur. Branches that are crossed and rubbing need to be addressed. This type of situation can cause more damage and further harm the trees integrity. As well branches that have partially broken or split can allow limb rot to start which can work it’s way back into the base of the tree further damaging it.

Keeping a tree well pruned and giving the tree good structure will allow it to grow strong and have an attractive look.
